چکیده

Introduction Assessment of aortic valve area (AVA) is primarily carried out by echocardiography in clinical routine. In cases of insufficient acoustic window, discrepant medical findings or suboprimal Doppler conditions, 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is discussed as an noninvasive alternative imaging method for planimetry of AVA. If quantification of AVA is also possible at higher magnetic field strength had not been investigated until now. The aim of the present study was to quantify AVA using planimetry and continuity equation and correlate them with each other.

A simplified continuity equation approach to the quantification of stenotic bicuspid aortic valves using velocity-encoded cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

OBJECTIVE We aimed to compare velocity-encoded cine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) with an established echocardiographic method for noninvasive measurement of aortic valve area (AVA) using the continuity equation. METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty consecutive young adults with stenotic bicuspid aortic valves were examined with CMR and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). CMR AVA was calculated by...

Comparison between cardiovascular magnetic resonance and transthoracic doppler echocardiography for the estimation of effective orifice area in aortic stenosis

BACKGROUND The effective orifice area (EOA) estimated by transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (TTE) via the continuity equation is commonly used to determine the severity of aortic stenosis (AS). However, there are often discrepancies between TTE-derived EOA and invasive indices of stenosis, thus raising uncertainty about actual definite severity. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has e...

Correlation of aortic valve area obtained by the velocity-encoded phase contrast continuity method to direct planimetry using cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

BACKGROUND Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common valvular heart disease resulting in surgical intervention. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) utilizing the continuity equation is commonly used to determine aortic valve area (AVA). However, sometimes TTE can be limited by poor acoustic windows, heavy valvular calcification, or eccentric jet morphology. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR...

CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE Evaluation of aortic stenosis by cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging: comparison with established routine clinical techniques

Objective: To evaluate whether direct planimetry of aortic valve area (AVA) by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is a reliable tool for determining the severity of aortic stenosis compared with transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE), and cardiac catheterisation. Methods: 44 symptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis were studied. By cardiac ca...

Assessment of left ventricular outflow tract geometry in non-stenotic and stenotic aortic valves by cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

PURPOSE To assess the geometry and area of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) in non-stenotic and stenotic aortic valves and to determine the aortic valve area (AVA) in non-stenotic valves by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using a modified continuity equation. METHODS Twenty patients (10 male, mean age 54.8 +/- 15 years) without known aortic valve disease and 10 patients (7 male, mea...
